For those who know the iconic shimmer and roar of 90s shoegaze, Miki Berenyi needs no introduction. As the co-frontperson of the seminal band Lush, her breathy, melodic vocals and razor-shire guitar work defined an era. Yet, to approach her new project, the Miki Berenyi Trio, with mere nostalgia would be a profound disservice. Their debut album, Tripla, is not a look backward but a compelling and confident step into a new musical landscape—one that is intricate, intimate, and utterly captivating.
Tripla unveils a refined and exploratory side of Berenyi, trading walls of guitar distortion for a spacious, acoustic-led sound that emphasizes nuance, rhythm, and lyrical storytelling. Teaming with keyboardist Mick Conroy (Modern English, Ultravox) and drummer Jules Bowen, the trio crafts a sophisticated album that feels both fresh and timeless.
